Climate overview

Vienna lies at a climatic crossroads on the eastern edge of the Vienna Woods — the north-easternmost foothills of the Alps — where they give way to the Pannonian Basin. The urban core has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa), grading to oceanic (Cfb) in the higher, wetter north-west. This position blends Atlantic and continental influences: summers are warm and at times hot under Pannonian air, winters are cool, and the regulated Danube threads through the city.
