1. Who we are

This policy covers weatherjourney.com, a climate-history service operated by SimpleMeteo.

2. What data is processed

IP-based geolocation

When you first visit the site, your IP address is processed server-side using the IP2Location LITE database to suggest a nearby city. The IP address is not stored, logged, or shared with any third party.

Analytics

We may use privacy-first server-side analytics that collect only anonymous, aggregated metrics (page views, referrers, browser type). No personal data, no cookies, no cross-site tracking.

Local preferences

Your language, unit, theme preferences and saved favorite cities are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Weather API requests

When you view a city, its coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve current conditions and forecast. No personal information is included in those requests.

3. What we do NOT collect

We do not use tracking cookies. We do not require user accounts. We do not collect names, emails, or phone numbers. We do not track individuals across sessions. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.

4. Cookies

weatherjourney.com sets no tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, and no advertising cookies.

5. Third-party services

  • ECMWF ERA5 / Copernicus CDS — Historical climate data provider. We only download bulk public datasets; no per-visitor traffic is sent to them.
  • Open-Meteo — Live weather and forecast provider. Receives only city coordinates. No personal data.
  • IP2Location LITE — Local IP geolocation database. IP is processed server-side only, never transmitted externally.
  • GeoNames — City names and coordinates database. We only download bulk public dumps; no per-visitor traffic is sent.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

Since we do not store personal data in any database, most GDPR data-subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability) are not applicable. If you have questions, contact us via the link below.

7. Children

This website is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly process personal data from children.

8. Changes

If our data practices change materially, this page will be updated before those changes take effect.
