1. Who we are

This policy covers weatherjourney.com, a climate-history service operated by SimpleMeteo.

2. What data is processed

IP-based geolocation

When you first visit the site, your IP address is processed server-side using the IP2Location LITE database to suggest a nearby city. The IP address is not stored, logged, or shared with any third party.

Analytics

We use Simple Analytics, a privacy-first analytics service based in the Netherlands (EU). It collects no personal data, sets no cookies, and does not track individual visitors. Only anonymous, aggregated metrics (page views, referrers, browser type) are recorded. We also record one anonymous, aggregated event when the share button is used: whether it opened your device's share sheet, copied the link, or was cancelled or failed. This tells us whether the feature is useful; it contains no personal data and is not linked to any individual. Which app you share to, if any, stays on your device; we never learn it.

Local preferences

Your language, unit, theme preferences and saved favorite cities are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Weather API requests

Current conditions and forecasts come from Open-Meteo's open-source weather software, which we run on our own server with the forecast data Open-Meteo publishes openly. When you view a city, the weather for its coordinates is fetched from that server only: nothing about your visit is sent to Open-Meteo, and your browser never contacts Open-Meteo.

3. What we do NOT collect

We do not use tracking cookies. We do not require user accounts. We do not collect names, emails, or phone numbers. We do not track individuals across sessions. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.

4. Cookies

weatherjourney.com sets no tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, and no advertising cookies.

5. Third-party services

  • ECMWF ERA5 / Copernicus CDS: Historical climate data provider. We only download bulk public datasets; no per-visitor traffic is sent to them.
  • Open-Meteo: Source of the live weather and forecast data. We run Open-Meteo's open-source software on our own server with the forecast data Open-Meteo publishes openly; nothing about your visit is sent to Open-Meteo.
  • IP2Location LITE: Local IP geolocation database. IP is processed server-side only, never transmitted externally.
  • GeoNames: City names and coordinates database. We only download bulk public dumps; no per-visitor traffic is sent.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

Since we do not store personal data in any database, most GDPR data-subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability) are not applicable. If you have questions, contact us via the link below.

7. Children

This website is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly process personal data from children.

8. Changes

If our data practices change materially, this page will be updated before those changes take effect.
