Climate overview

Tel Aviv has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa), strung along the Israeli coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Summers are long, hot and very humid but almost completely rainless; winters are mild and wet, with the year's rain concentrated in a few stormy months from about December to February. The sea keeps temperatures from reaching the extremes of the nearby interior.

The chief departures from that gentle pattern come from the desert: hot, dry air masses can sweep in during spring and autumn to drive sharp heat waves. Winter storms can be intense, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms, while snow is essentially unknown — recorded just once, in the mid-20th century.

The warmest month is August, with a daily mean around 27.0°C and typical afternoon highs of 30.2°C. On about 170 nights a year, the temperature never drops below 20°C. In January, daily means drop to roughly 14.2°C, with nights dipping to 11.8°C. Frost is essentially unknown.
