Glasgow has a temperate oceanic climate (Köppen Cfb), and is one of the mildest but wettest cities in Britain. Open to the Atlantic on Scotland's west coast, it is warmed by the North Atlantic Drift — keeping it far milder than its northern latitude would suggest — but also exposed to a steady parade of moist Atlantic weather systems. The result is a famously damp, cloudy climate.
Rain is the constant: Glasgow is the rainiest major city in the UK, with rain falling on well over 170 days a year. Temperature extremes, by contrast, are rare — the mild Atlantic air smooths out both heat and cold — though the city shared in Britain's record warmth of 2018 and the severe cold spell of December 2010.
The warmest month is July, with a daily mean around 15.0°C and typical afternoon highs of 18.2°C. The coolest month is January, when daily means fall to about 4.1°C and overnight lows sit around 1.8°C.
